Pat Rooney was a relatively well known cartoonist in the UK in the mid 50s. He used to make a good living on the side travelling around the bases (when there were a lot more before various governments dismantled and crunched evrything). He'd apparently spend up to a week at base (presumably staying at no charge and eating in the mess at no charge) while he drew these caricatures at 3 pounds a shot.10 a week and he had a good living back then.
